Angry Birds Rio
“The birds flew home to Rio, and honestly, who could blame them.”
“Gone quiet in 2020, still holding everyone's opinions politely in reserve.”
Launched on December 15, 2012, Tencent Dajia — also known as iPress — was an opinion blog that gave Chinese liberal intellectuals a shared stage. Under editor-in-chief Jia Jia, it became a place where many minds could make their case. Readers loved it for exactly that: a gathering of thoughtful voices under one roof.
On February 19, 2020, the blog was shut down, ending its seven-year run. It left behind the memory of a rare common room for ideas. For those who wrote and read there, Dajia remains proof that the conversation happened.
