Angry Birds Rio arrived on March 22, 2011 as Rovio's crossover between its slingshot sensations and 20th Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios' animated films Rio and Rio 2. It kept the classic gameplay fans loved while sneaking in new tricks, most notably the series' first boss levels. For a while, launching birds at cartoon macaws was simply part of being alive in the early 2010s.
On February 3, 2020, the game was retired alongside Angry Birds Star Wars and its sequel, delisted from Google Play and the iOS App Store in one quiet afternoon. It went out not in disgrace but in good company, among franchise kin. Somewhere, a boss level waits, undefeated and unbothered.
