PlayStation Vue launched in a limited major-market rollout on March 18, 2015, offering live TV, on-demand video, and cloud-based DVR streamed straight to a PlayStation console, smart TV, or other supported device — no cable or satellite subscription required. Built for cord cutters and designed to complement subscription video-on-demand services, it packed a lineup of cable-originated channels into one tidy streaming
As of August 26, 2018, the service counted roughly 745,000 subscribers, but the math never got easier. On October 29, 2019, Sony announced the end, explaining that the highly competitive Pay TV industry, with its expensive content and network deals, had been slower to change than expected. On January 30, 2020, Vue went dark, leaving behind a modest but devoted crowd of cord cutters.
