Flappy Bird
“He made a bird we couldn't stop tapping, then took it away to save us from ourselves.”
“It put the whole web on your couch before your couch was ready for it.”
Google TV was a smart TV operating system from Google, co-developed with Intel, Sony and Logitech, that launched in October 2010. It combined Android with the Chrome browser to put an interactive overlay on top of online video sites, complete with a 10-foot user interface. Fans loved that their television could finally browse the web, with devices from Sony, Logitech and later LG, Samsung, Vizio, Hisense and more.
In June 2014, Google TV was succeeded by Android TV, a newer platform with closer ties to Android, Knowledge Graph integration and casting from mobile devices. The Google TV SDK was withdrawn the same month, ending its future. It bowed out gracefully, replaced by its own family rather than abandoned.
