“Unlimited storage, endless albums, and one heck of a successor to hand the torch to.”
Launched on March 28, 2000, Yahoo! Photos was the photo home for Yahoo! users, who sorted their pictures into albums with loving care. It offered something almost mythical today: unlimited photo storage. You could share albums with everyone, restrict access, or keep private folders entirely to yourself.
After Yahoo! purchased Flickr in March 2005, the company closed Yahoo! Photos on September 20, 2007 at 9:00 PM PDT. Its drag-and-drop uploader and jpg-only simplicity were products of a gentler internet era. It went out not with a scandal, but with a graceful exit — leaving its successor to carry on.
