“It saw you whole — all 360 degrees and seven microphones of you.”
“It held 300 shows and a million commutes; the playlists go on without it.”
Stitcher was a podcast company that did it all: it created original shows through networks like Earwolf and Witness Docs, sold ads and distributed for more than 300 shows, and ran one of the largest podcast listening apps. For listeners, it was simply where the day's audio lived. It got around, too — SiriusXM came calling in July 2020 and sealed the deal by October 19 of that year.
The end came quietly on August 29, 2023, folded into the company that bought it. What's left behind is substantial: the shows it nurtured, the ad business it helped build, and years of listening habits formed inside its app. A whole era of podcasting grew up with Stitcher in the room.
