“It once ran the whole fun part of the internet, and it never asked for a flashlight”
“Checked out every source, never returned late, still missed by every paper it helped write.”
Questia was an online commercial digital repository of books and articles with a distinctly academic orientation, leaning hard into the humanities and social sciences. Subscribers could read the full text of everything in its collection, and the site came with integrated research tools built right in. For students and scholars, it was a library that never closed.
Founded in 1998, Questia served its readers for over two decades before ceasing operations in December 2020. What it leaves behind is a generation of term papers, theses, and late-night research sessions that got a little easier because it existed. Rest well, old card catalog of the internet.
Spotted something wrong? Every fact on this page traces to a dated source. Fixes make the graveyard better for everyone.
