“It once ran the whole fun part of the internet, and it never asked for a flashlight”
“Your money arrived; eventually, so did the merger.”
Google Pay Send, once known as Google Wallet, let people send and receive money from a phone or desktop with no fuss. For a while, it was simply how friends settled up — a little envelope icon with real money inside. It earned affection the way useful things do: quietly, transaction by transaction.
In 2018, Google folded Android Pay and Google Wallet into one system called Google Pay, rebranding the old Wallet app as Google Pay Send as a gentle transition stop. By 2020 it, too, was discontinued, completing the consolidation. Its legacy lives on inside Google Pay — same money, newer logo.
