Nintendo 2DS
“It gave up the 3D and kept the games — flat screen, full heart”
“A modest revision that became a beloved classic — now folding its screens for good.”
The New Nintendo 3DS was a foldable dual-screen handheld that Nintendo introduced in Japan on October 11, 2014, a refinement of the original 3DS rather than a full redesign. It packed upgraded processors, more RAM, an analog pointing stick, two extra shoulder triggers, face detection for better autostereoscopic 3D, a 4 GB microSD card, and built-in NFC — plus colored face buttons and face plates on the smaller model.
After a staged international rollout that reached all major markets by September 25, 2015, the console ran quietly and happily alongside its larger sibling, the New 3DS XL (sold in Japan as the New Nintendo 3DS LL). By 2020, Nintendo retired the line, closing out a hardware family that had simply grown old in good standing. It leaves behind the memory of a small, sturdy companion that did everything a modest revision
