“The corp may have won that round, but the runners never really logged off.”

Netrunner was an out-of-print collectible card game designed by Richard Garfield, the creator of Magic: The Gathering, published by Wizards of the Coast and introduced in April 1996. Set in the world of the Cyberpunk 2020 role-playing game, it drew from the broader cyberpunk genre. Asymmetric card games about hackers versus megacorps were rare then, and fans loved it for being ahead of its time.

The original run ended in 1999, but the game refused to stay down. In 2012, Fantasy Flight Games released Android: Netrunner under license from Wizards of the Coast, and since 2019 the game has been run by the nonprofit publisher Null Signal Games. Few discontinued products get a second life — fewer still get a fan-run one.
