“It backed up everything, including, eventually, itself.”
“The last Lumia: a quiet business phone that closed the book with its sleeves rolled up.”
Revealed on February 15, 2016, the Lumia 650 was the successor to the Lumia 640 and Microsoft's pitch to business users, with support for the company's business apps plus security features like device encryption and remote wiping. It came in single- and dual-SIM variants, a practical little workhorse. It couldn't do Continuum due to hardware limitations, but for many it was simply a dependable phone that did its job.
The 650 holds the bittersweet title of the most recent model in the Lumia series. Within about a year and a half, Microsoft discontinued Lumia hardware production in October 2017, pivoting instead to dual-screen devices under the Surface Duo brand. The 650 went out not in disgrace but as the closing chapter, retired with the whole line it belonged to.
