“It gave Unix the internet and the internet a backbone. Rest easy, Berkeley.”
“The last of the little Macs, colorful to the very end.”
The Macintosh Color Classic was Apple's all-in-one compact Mac with a 10-inch Sony Trinitron display at 512 × 384 pixels, capable of showing thousands of colors with a video memory upgrade. It was the first compact Mac to bring color to that beloved little-box form factor. Sold as the Macintosh Colour Classic in PAL regions, it was the final, most vibrant chapter of the original compact family.
It was discontinued in May 1995, lingering until January 1998 in PAL markets. A slightly updated Color Classic II, sometimes sold as the Performa 275, carried the torch in Japan, Canada and some international markets. Its place was eventually taken by the larger-display Macintosh LC 500 series and Power Macintosh 5200 LC, closing out the compact line for good.
