MacBook Pro (Intel-based)

“It carried us into the Intel era and out the other side. Rest well, old friend.”

The Intel-based MacBook Pro arrived in 2006 as the successor to the PowerBook, swapping PowerPC chips for Intel Core processors, adding a webcam, and introducing the beloved MagSafe connector. Over the years it grew a unibody aluminum case machined from a single piece of metal, a Retina display that made everything else look blurry, and a click-everywhere trackpad. It was the higher-end Mac laptop, the machine people

Its run ended on October 18, 2021, after fifteen years and countless design reinventions — including, for better or worse, the Touch Bar era of 2016. Along the way it traded Ethernet, FireWire, and the optical drive for thinner bodies and solid-state drives. It didn't die so much as hand over the keys, leaving behind a generation of laptops that learned everything from it.
