Android Ice Cream Sandwich

“It gave Android its face, its font, and finally one OS for phones and tablets alike.”

Android Ice Cream Sandwich, version 4.0, was Google's fourth major Android release, unveiled on October 19, 2011. It arrived with a mission: to unify the tablet-only Honeycomb changes into a single platform for both phones and tablets. The Galaxy Nexus was the first phone to ship with it, and fans embraced the clean, minimalist Holo look and the new Roboto typeface that gave Android a modern identity.

Ice Cream Sandwich packed in plenty people loved — NFC beaming, Face Unlock, lock-screen camera access, visual voicemail, and a contacts manager with social integration. It served faithfully until 2014, when it was discontinued. Its legacy lived on in every version that followed, built on the unified foundation it created.
