Yahoo Music

“It streamed, it sold, it spun the dial — then quietly passed the aux cord to Rhapsody.”

Yahoo Music was the umbrella brand for everything musical at Yahoo: internet radio, a digital music store, a streaming service, media player software, and even original programming. For fans, it was a one-stop shop — the place your email, your messenger, and your music all lived together under one roof.

In early 2008, Yahoo sold the brand to Rhapsody, and the final shutter came on September 30 of that year. What it left behind was a memory of an era when portals tried to be everything, and for a while, actually were.
