Windows NT 3.5

1994 — 2001 · Microsoft
retired Reported · 2001

“Named for a speedway, and it earned it — fast, steady, gone at the checkered flag.”

Windows NT 3.5 was Microsoft's second major release of the NT operating system, aimed at data servers and personal workstations, released on September 21, 1994 as the successor to Windows NT 3.1. Its development focused on improving performance, so the team gave it a fitting codename: Daytona, after the famed international speedway.

Its reign was brief but orderly — Windows NT 3.51 arrived in 1995 to take the baton, and Microsoft ended support and updates on December 31, 2001. In 2020, the source code leaked online, resurfacing Daytona for a new generation of curious eyes.
