“It gave us Siri, sold by the millions, and said goodnight gently.”
“Swap the shell, keep the memories: the Lumia 820 retired with its colors intact.”
The Nokia Lumia 820 arrived in November 2012 as a major overhaul of the Lumia 800, one of the first Nokia phones to run Windows Phone 8 alongside its bigger sibling, the Lumia 920. It packed a 4.3-inch OLED display, a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, an 8.7-megapixel camera, LTE, and the distinction of being Nokia's first Windows Phone with a microSD card slot.
Its party trick was a range of interchangeable back shells you could swap for color, or for wireless charging with a compatible one. In 2014 the line was discontinued, and the 820 slipped into retirement, remembered fondly by those who liked their phones with a little personality on the back.
