Apple IIGS
“Graphics and Sound, grace and speed: the last and loveliest of the Apple II line.”
“Fastest Mac of its day, last of the Snow White line — it left on its own terms”
The Macintosh IIfx arrived in March 1990 with a price tag of $9,000 to $12,000 depending on configuration, and it earned every penny: it was the fastest Macintosh available at the time. As the most powerful of the 68030-based Macintosh II family, it was the machine for people who wanted the absolute top of the line.
Apple sold the IIfx until April 1992, when it was retired as the Macintosh Quadra took over the top of the lineup in 1991. It also holds a quiet distinction: it was the last Apple computer designed using the Snow White design language, a dignified final bow for an era of Mac styling.
