The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max were Apple's sixteenth-generation flagships, unveiled at Apple Park on September 7, 2022, and on shelves September 16, 2022. They succeeded the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max, and people loved them for their bold firsts: the Dynamic Island replaced the notch that had been around since the iPhone X, and an always-on display finally arrived.
They also brought bidirectional satellite connectivity for contacting emergency services beyond Wi-Fi and cellular range, and stood as the last iPhones to carry both the Lightning port and that older design era. Discontinued in 2023, they retired as a bridge generation — parting gift included, notch retired alongside them.
