“It fed us the internet one feed at a time, until Google decided we were full.”

Internet Explorer for Mac was Microsoft's browser for the Macintosh, born from the same code base as its Windows sibling before charting its own course. Version 5 shipped with the Tasman layout engine, praised for being fault-tolerant and impressively standards-compliant. Thanks to the 1997 Apple-Microsoft agreement, it served as the Mac's default browser from 1998 until Safari took the crown with Mac OS X Panther.
Microsoft announced it was ceasing development on June 13, 2003, with the final update arriving on July 11, 2003. The browser quietly left the default install of Mac OS X Tiger in 2005, and support officially ended on December 31, 2005. On January 31, 2006, Microsoft removed it from its downloads site — a tidy, dignified exit for a browser that punched above its weight.
